The Levubu Guava
The rich pink Levubu guava has a distinct aroma with sweet flesh and a slightly acidic berry flavour which makes it ideal for the production of juice. The purée is thick with high viscosity and good mouth-feel. It has extraordinary, unmatched organoleptics both on its own or when mixed with other tropical fruits. On the nutritional front the guava is impressive. The skin, flesh and seeds are edible and few fruits can out-perform it in terms of nutrition and health giving properties.
The guava has 5 times more vitamin C than an orange, is rich in potassium, high in natural fibre and low in kilo-joules. As the trend towards health consciousness continues, the Levubu guava is well placed to gain prominence in the international arena.
The Levubu Mango
The mango, though originally from Asia is naturalized and cultivated extensively in South Africa. The Levubu Mango is a blend of our local fruit which compares well with Kent, Keitts and Tommy Atkins, and is ideal for the production of quality purées, concentrates, nectars and juices. This ovoid fruit is naturally sweet with rich yellow to yellow-orange colouration when ripe. The nutritional values of the Mango are well recognized internationally. It is rich in vitamins A (in the form of beta-carotene), B6, C and E. Raw mango is a rich source of pectin and is also an efficient thirst quencher. Mangoes also contain phytochemicals, currently of great interest to the health conscious.
